Art is a piece of a soul that has come into being. Finding Your Voice. Fear has always created a barrier for my saying what I want to or need to say. This fear and repression of my voice builds up as tension in my body. This image is the antithesis of this concept, my rendering of the freedom in letting your voice be unleashed. The heart is a fickle thing, constantly pulled in different directions. Distress Tolerance. Is this what it feels like to be at the point of breaking, to feel like your emotional turmoil is too much to bear? Girl with a Gauged Ear. This piece a conversation with the classical piece "Girl with a Pearl Earring." It questions stereotypical female expression and debates beauty ideals. Balance. Finding balance in life is something I still seem to be searching for. This piece contains taut strings that cross and pull tight across the top and bottom bands. Self Care Goddess. You GOTTA have her on your side. Giving In. This piece was inspired by Florence and the Machine's song "Never Let Me Go." One line of the lyrics state, "And I'm going under, but I'm not giving up, I'm giving in." Psychedeltopus. Quite honestly, I find octopuses to be fascinating creatures. Frida Kahlo is someone I respect and take inspiration from. The resilience she displayed in healing her body and overcoming physical and emotional difficulties, and her ability to follow her heart and mind are motivational for me. My Hands are Tied. This image depicts the western beauty ideals that are placed upon women. I have striven to meet these ideals, yet the more I work towards them, I find I cannot measure up. I find I continue to tie my hands with the delicate bow that could be so easily broken but so often find myself in the same patterns. Safe Place. This image was created in response to an imagined safe place to cope with anxiety. Under the wings of safety, I find rest. Zentangle is popular mindfulness tool. You can see the patterns of zentangle in the owl's feathers in this piece. This is a self-portrait of my childhood self and could possibly depict others who grew up in similar cultural backgrounds. I intended her to be looking into the mirror, her measure of perfection. I have recently gotten into mushroom foraging. This is a morel mushroom! This is a commission piece I created in memory of someone's loved one who enjoyed daisies. Our dreams, something we hold so close to our heart yet are so willing to let go of. Pigs are such wonderful creatures to observe. They embrace who they are and love what they love (food). The Lion. An ode to the circle of life. Coming Home.
